Craftinator

Player guide

Craftinator: a guide for players and parents

Controls, building, games, AI credit and joining from Java or a phone.

Craftinator is a Minecraft companion you can talk to in everyday language, by voice or text. It builds what you ask for, answers questions, invents games and creates new dimensions.

Craftinator is artificial intelligence

  • Who answers: an AI language model answers, not a person. Every AI chat reply starts with “AI · name:”. The server reminds you that it is AI when you start playing. Neither a character's program nor a player can turn this label off.
  • AI items: their tooltip has a grey “Created with AI” line. You can also check whether a building or character was created by AI at a player's request: use /cr creation while looking at it, or hold Shift with a spyglass.
  • Mistakes: AI can get things wrong. Use /cr undo to undo a build.

Controls

V, G, H and B apply to the Java client with the Craftinator mod. Without the mod, use chat commands; phone instructions are below.

Key or commandWhat it does
V (hold)Talk. Hold the key while speaking, then release it. “● Listening…” appears above the hotbar.
GType a request or question.
HMicrophone settings.
BControl the web display you are looking at.
/cr undoUndo the last build.
“cancel it”, “stop”, “stop building”Say or type this during a build to stop it and restore the blocks already placed. Otherwise, a phrase such as “remove those chickens” is an ordinary request.
/cr statusSee what is happening with your requests.
/cr markerGet transparent “Build marker” blocks. Place them on the ground, for example in a circle, and say what to build there.
/cr dimension listList custom dimensions. Enter a dimension through its portal.
/cr memory forgetMake Craftinator forget what it remembers about you in this world.
/cr usageSee how many AI requests and how much credit you have used this month.
/cr key statusSee which AI key is used for you and how much credit remains.

What you can make

  • Buildings: houses, castles, observation towers with spiral stairs, roller coasters, racing circuits, islands, caves with ores, dungeons (with monsters if requested), statues.
  • Answers to questions, such as “How many hearts does that chicken have?”.
  • Animals and characters: recolour them, enlarge them up to 16Ă— (a larger animal has more health and drops more loot), create your own creature, car or rideable horse. Right-click to ride; Shift to dismount.
  • Games and stories: a guard who opens a door for a password, several doors in sequence, a character who gives a quest and a reward, racing checkpoints with lap timing, a slot machine with prizes.
  • Items: a sword with its own image, property or spell, such as a “sculk burst”, delivered directly to your inventory.
  • Games on block screens: Pong or two-player Tetris. Right-click to join, use movement keys and jump to play, and Shift to leave.
  • Web displays: games and apps run on the server and also appear on Windows, Linux and phones. YouTube playback requires a Java client with the mod: on Mac through the local browser helper, on Windows and Linux with the additional MCEF mod. Phones cannot play the video inside the game.
  • New dimensions with portals.

Games on a web display

These games have ready-made presets. Want something else? Describe any game in your own words and Craftinator writes it for your display and tests that it plays. Aim at a free space and copy a request into chat. With the mod, type the same sentence without /cr ask using G, or say it with V. On a phone, use /cr ask or the form opened by /cr.

Game or appChat request
Tetris — fit falling pieces into complete rows./cr ask Build a web display with Tetris.
Snake — collect apples and avoid the walls and your own body./cr ask Build a web display with Snake.
Pong — hit the ball with a paddle; a second player can join./cr ask Build a web display with Pong.
Roulette — choose a bet and spin the wheel./cr ask Build a web display with Roulette.
Slot machine — spin three reels on one or three lines./cr ask Build a web display with a slot machine.
Blackjack — get close to 21 without going over./cr ask Build a web display with Blackjack.
2048 — merge matching tiles into higher numbers./cr ask Build a web display with 2048.
Breakout — bounce the ball and break the bricks./cr ask Build a web display with Breakout.
Minesweeper — reveal safe squares and flag mines./cr ask Build a web display with Minesweeper.
Flappy — fly through the gaps between pipes./cr ask Build a web display with Flappy.
Memory — two players take turns finding pairs./cr ask Build a web display with Memory pairs.
Connect Four — connect four counters against the computer or another player./cr ask Build a web display with Connect Four.
Quiz — answer together; AI prepares questions from your request./cr ask Build a web display with an animal quiz, five questions and four choices for each question.
Scoreboard — manually controlled scores and a stopwatch./cr ask Build a web display Scoreboard titled Race, with Points and Time columns and a manual stopwatch.

Click or tap the display. Each game shows its controls on screen. On a phone, the joystick replaces arrow keys and jump replaces Space. In the Java client with the mod, B opens display controls. See Without the mod and On phones and tablets below for connection and control details.

Roulette, slots and Blackjack use chips inside that page only. Chips cannot be bought or cashed out, and they are not Minecraft items or currency. The first player starts a quiz; everyone else joins before it starts. In Scoreboard, players change their own points and record their time manually. The first player controls the shared stopwatch and starts new rounds. It does not automatically read race results or the game HUD; reloading the page starts it over.

Memory and data

  • Memory: in each world, Craftinator remembers what a player asked for and what happened around them, so it understands requests such as “like last time”. Memory is stored only on the server; /cr memory forget deletes it.
  • What goes to AI: the request, a description of the surroundings in the game, the character's name and memory. Email addresses, payment details and IP addresses are not sent.
  • Provider: AI runs through OpenRouter with a provider that does not store the text or train on it (zero data retention). Details are in AI_DATA_POLICY.md (repository access required).
  • Parents: children under 15 need parental consent for AI processing. The server operator arranges this under their terms.

AI credit

  • Budget: each request uses some AI credit. The server may set a monthly budget per player; when it runs out, requests wait until the next month. /cr usage shows your usage.
  • Game currency: AI credit is not game currency and cannot be cashed out.
  • Your own key: a player with the Java mod can use their own OpenRouter key: /cr key set opens a masked input field. Without the mod, this window does not open; the command offers entry through a command instead. Use the modded client for safe entry. Never send a key in ordinary chat or a bug report.

Rules

The world administrator can warn a player with /cr world warn <player> [reason]. The third warning results in a ban.

Without the mod

You can join with unmodified Minecraft 1.21.1. Type requests in chat (/cr ask build a small house), and talk to a character the same way while looking at it. Programmable blocks look like purple concrete, pictures like banners, and characters like named armour stands labelled “AI”. Pixel pictures and games on block screens appear as maps in item frames. Voice and YouTube displays require the mod. Games and apps that AI creates for a display also appear as maps in item frames without the mod. They are slower (at most 15 frames per second) and have fewer colours.

On phones and tablets (Bedrock)

Public prototype: on your phone, choose Play → Servers → Add Server, address craftinator.javurkovi.com (or 77.90.2.204), port 19132. The server runs on QuantumGuard. On a computer with Java 1.21.1, join craftinator.javurkovi.com on port 25565. Only allowlisted players signed in with a Microsoft account can join. AI uses the lower tier (Claude Haiku 5.5), with a budget of USD 1 per player per month. AI can change the world for every player there, including in Survival mode.

AI edits check protected claims and recorded creations owned by someone else. This does not guarantee protection for every manually placed block or every old building without an ownership record. Use your own free space when testing.

Minecraft on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows and consoles (Bedrock) connects through the Geyser gateway. On a computer with the development environment ready, run this from the game/ directory:

node scripts/play-server.mjs --accept-eula
  • --accept-eula is only needed the first time and means you accept the Minecraft licence.
  • The script prints the computer's address. On the phone, choose Play → Servers → Add Server, enter that address and port 19132.
  • The phone must be signed in to an Xbox account. It does not need a Java account.
  • On Mac, the firewall may ask whether to allow incoming Java connections on first launch. Allow them so the phone can connect.
  • Phones cannot show YouTube on the display. Chat links cannot be opened on the phone.
  • The server has its own world, separate from single-player saves.
  • The standalone server package has different prerequisites and runs with --packaged --tier …; see SERVER_HOSTING.md (repository access required).
  • Requests: type /cr in chat to open a form for your request. Aim at the place you want to change. The switch below the field undoes your last change instead. /cr ask … also works.
  • A request can have up to 2000 characters. Bedrock itself allows only 100 in the form, so the server sends a small Craftinator pack (under 1 kB) on first connection. The phone downloads it with the Geyser gateway pack (about 150 kB), which always downloads; later it uses the cached copy.
  • Speaking: in the request or character form, tap the phone keyboard's microphone and dictate your request. Craftinator detects the language from the text.
  • Characters: tap one to open a form and type to it. AI answers.
  • Display or game screen: tap it. The tap clicks inside the game and seats you in front of the display. The joystick then sends arrow keys; jump sends Space. Dismount or sneak to stand up and leave the game.
  • Without --online, the server does not check Java accounts, so run it only at home.
  • Who can change the world through AI: without configuration, only Creative players or operators can. A server for AI building sets "authoring": "everyone" in mod/run-server/config/craftinator.json. Then every player can change the world. Players who only want to talk can switch with /cr mode adventure.
