AI in Minecraft Bedrock: Play With AI on Phone, Console and PC

Looking for AI in Minecraft Bedrock? If you play on a phone, a tablet or a console, you have probably noticed that most "Minecraft AI" you hear about seems to need a PC, a modded game and some setup. This guide explains why that is, and how Craftinator, an AI Minecraft server for Java and Bedrock Edition, gives Bedrock players the same AI companion as everyone else, because the AI runs on the server instead of on your device.

Craftinator is in early access sign-up and not launched yet, so this describes how it is designed to work. You can join the early access to get in when it opens.

Why AI in Minecraft Bedrock is usually hard

Most AI add-ons for Minecraft are built as mods, and mods mostly live in the Java Edition world on a computer. To use one, you install a mod loader, drop files in the right folder, match versions and sometimes run extra programs next to the game.

On Bedrock Edition, and especially on consoles and phones, that path is mostly closed for regular players:

  • You usually can't install that kind of mod on a console or phone.
  • Files and folders are hidden or locked down on many devices.
  • Even when something can be installed, it often needs a computer to set it up.

So a lot of players searching for "ai minecraft mobile" or "minecraft ai bedrock" end up with videos they can watch but not tools they can actually use. For a deeper look at the two approaches, see Minecraft AI mod vs AI server.

How Craftinator brings AI to Bedrock: the AI runs on the server

Craftinator takes a different route. Instead of putting AI inside your game, it puts the AI on the server you join.

Here is the idea in plain terms:

  1. You join with your normal Minecraft client, the one already on your phone, console or PC.
  2. You talk to your companion by voice or by typing in chat.
  3. On the server, an AI language model understands what you asked and plans what to build.
  4. The server checks the plan: it has to be in your area, leave other players' builds alone and be a sensible size.
  5. The server places the blocks and entities, and they show up in your game like anything else in the world.

Your device only has to do what it already does: show Minecraft. All the thinking and building happens server-side, which is why there are no mods and no commands to learn. The AI Minecraft server guide walks through this in more detail.

Same companion on phone, console and PC

Because nothing depends on your device, the experience is the same wherever you play. Every player gets their own flying AI companion at their side, whether they joined from a gaming PC, a console in the living room or a phone on the bus.

That matters a lot in mixed groups. Picture a family or a friend group where one person plays Java on a laptop, one plays Bedrock on a console and one is on a phone. On Craftinator they all share one giant shared world, and each of them has a companion that can:

  • Build what they describe, usually within seconds.
  • Talk back, answer questions, give tips and tell stories.
  • See what is happening around them and react to it.
  • Remember what they talked about and built together.

If you play with friends on different editions, the Java and Bedrock together guide has more on mixed groups.

Talking to your companion without a keyboard

Typing long messages on a controller or a touchscreen is slow. That is one reason the companion understands voice as well as text, and works in many languages. You don't need special words or a format. Short, natural requests work well on any device:

Build me a small birch house right here.

Paint that chicken blue.

Drop 100 pigs in one spot over there.

What should I do with this empty island?

If a result is close but not right, just follow up: "make it taller" or "use dark oak instead." For more on chatting, see the Minecraft AI chat and voice guide.

What you can do with AI on Bedrock and mobile

On Craftinator, Bedrock and phone players are not stuck with a "lite" version. The same features are there for everyone:

  • Builds of any size: from a cozy cabin to a giant Death Star.
  • New blocks, objects and creatures with their own properties, behavior and physics, described in one sentence.
  • Your own games and quests: dungeons, stories and minigames your companion builds with you.
  • Grief-proof builds: what you create is yours; others can admire it but can't break, steal or change it.
  • A real, stable economy to trade, earn and spend in.

Your world is saved, not stuck on one device

Phones get lost, consoles get replaced and tablets get passed down to younger siblings. With most single-player worlds, that can mean losing everything. On Craftinator, your world lives on the server, not on your device.

Everything is saved automatically in Craftinator's database, on server backups and, if you want, on your own Google Drive. Switch from your phone to a console or a PC and your builds are still there. If you have ever lost a world before, the lost Minecraft world backup guide explains how to avoid it happening again.

Notes for parents

Bedrock on a tablet or console is often how younger kids play, so a few simple points:

  • No personal information. Kids should not share their full name, address, school, phone number or passwords with the companion or other players, whether by voice or text.
  • It is AI, not a person. It can be friendly and still make mistakes, so treat its answers as suggestions.
  • A parent manages AI costs. AI runs on Craftinator credits or on your own AI provider key (BYOK). With BYOK, the parent creates the key, sets a spending limit with the provider and keeps it out of chat and screenshots.
  • Builds are protected by grief protection and automatic saving.

Craftinator is built by Karel & Karel, a dad and his 13-year-old son who plays Minecraft every day and outgrew the server he ran with friends. If you want to try it from your phone or console, join the early access.

Craftinator is not an official Minecraft product and is not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft.

FAQ

Can I use AI in Minecraft Bedrock without mods?

Yes, on Craftinator. The AI runs on the server, so you join with your normal Bedrock client and talk to your companion without installing anything.

Does Craftinator work on phones and consoles?

Yes. Craftinator is built for Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, including PC, console and phone, and every player gets the same flying AI companion.

Is AI on Bedrock weaker than on Java in Craftinator?

No. Because the AI and building happen on the server, Bedrock, phone and console players can build, invent creatures and make games just like Java players.

What happens to my builds if I switch devices?

They stay on the server. Craftinator saves everything automatically in its database, on server backups and optionally on your own Google Drive.

Is Craftinator available on Bedrock right now?

Not yet. Craftinator is in early access sign-up and has not launched, so you can sign up now to be notified when it opens.
