Minecraft AI Chat: Talk to Your Companion by Voice or Text

Minecraft AI chat is what turns AI from a tool into a teammate. In Craftinator, a Minecraft server for Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, every player has their own flying AI companion, and you talk to it by voice or by typing in chat, in many languages. You can ask questions, get tips, hear stories or describe something to build. This guide covers how to talk to Minecraft AI well, what kinds of conversations work best, and simple privacy habits for kids.

Craftinator is in early access sign-up and not launched yet, so this describes how chatting with the companion is designed to work.

Minecraft AI chat: voice or text

You have two ways to talk, and you can switch whenever you like:

  • Voice is great when your hands are busy, when you are on a console or phone where typing is slow, or for younger players who don't type quickly yet.
  • Text chat is handy when you are in a noisy room, playing late while others sleep, or want to write a longer, more exact request.

Either way, there is no special syntax. There are no mods and no commands to learn. You just say what you mean, the way you would talk to a friend sitting next to you.

Talk in your own language

Your companion understands many languages. That matters more than it sounds:

  • Kids can ask questions in the language they think in.
  • Families can play together even if not everyone is comfortable in English.
  • Language learners can practice by chatting, asking for stories or giving building instructions.

Can you tell me the story of our castle, but in Spanish this time?

What you can ask: questions, tips and stories

A good Minecraft AI assistant is more than a search box. Your companion is a friend that talks back: it answers questions, gives tips, tells stories and simply chats. Because it sees what is happening around you and reacts, you can ask about the exact spot you are in.

Questions:

What's a good way to light up this cave so nothing spawns?

Tips:

I keep running out of food. What's an easy farm to start with?

Stories:

Make up a bedtime story about the dragon statue we built last week.

Since the companion remembers what you talked about, what you built and moments you lived through together, stories and advice can draw on your own world. Like any AI, it can sometimes get facts wrong, so treat tips as suggestions and test them.

Building by talking

Chat is also how you build. You describe what you want, the companion understands it with an AI language model and plans it, the server checks it (your area, other players' builds, a sensible size), and the blocks appear within seconds.

Build a wooden pier going out into the lake, with lanterns along the sides.

Then keep the conversation going: "make it longer," "use dark oak," "add a small boathouse at the end." That back-and-forth is the core of building with your voice. You can also invent new blocks, objects and creatures or turn an idea into a quest, dungeon or minigame. The Minecraft AI builder guide and the AI minigames and dungeons guide go deeper.

Good chat habits

A few habits make conversations with your companion smoother:

  • Be specific when it matters. "A small spruce cabin with two windows" beats "a house."
  • Point at things. "This hill," "that river," "the tower behind me" all work because the companion sees your surroundings.
  • One change at a time. Short follow-ups are easier to get right than long lists.
  • Say what you didn't like. "Too tall" or "too dark" helps more than starting over.
  • Use it for ideas, not just orders. Ask "what would fit here?" and pick from the suggestions.
  • Be kind. It is AI, but good habits carry over to how you talk with real players.

Privacy tips for kids and parents

Talking to an AI by voice or text feels personal, so it is worth setting a few rules early, especially for younger players:

  • No personal information. Don't share your full name, home address, school, phone number, passwords or photos in chat, whether with the companion or other players.
  • Keep it about the game. The companion is great for Minecraft questions, stories and builds. For real-life worries, talk to a parent or trusted adult.
  • It is AI, not a person. Friendly and patient, but not a real friend in the human sense.
  • Parents manage AI costs. AI usage runs on Craftinator credits or your own AI provider key (BYOK). With BYOK, a parent should create the key, set a spending limit with the provider and never paste it into chat or show it in screenshots or streams.
  • Builds are protected. Builds are grief-proof, and everything is saved automatically in Craftinator's database, on server backups and optionally on your own Google Drive.

Why chat changes the game

When you can just talk, Minecraft gets easier to start and deeper to play. A younger player can say "build me a treehouse" instead of learning tricky tools. An experienced builder can sketch ideas out loud and refine them quickly. Friends in one giant shared world can each chat with their own companion and then compare what they made. The play Minecraft with AI guide shows how that looks in a full session.

Craftinator is built by Karel & Karel, a dad and his 13-year-old son who plays Minecraft every day and outgrew the server he ran with friends. If you'd like to try it when it opens, join the early access.

Craftinator is not an official Minecraft product and is not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft.
